BUSINESS PROFILE

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation (ABS) is the largest integrated media and entertainment company in Philippines. It traces its roots from Bolinao Electronic Corporation (BEC), which was established in 1946 as an assembler of radio transmitting equipment. In 1952, BEC changed its corporate name to Alto Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). On 24 September 1956, the Lopez-owned Chronicle Broadcasting Network (CBN) was organized and acquired ABC a year later. On 01 February 1967, the corporate name was changed to ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.
ABS ceased operations with the imposition of martial law in September 1972 as the government took over the Company's studios and equipment. The Company resumed commercial operations in February 1986 during the height of the EDSA revolution. It went public on 08 July 1992.
Its broadcasting operations cover the production of television and radio programs that serve its target audience's needs for news, information and entertainment, and public service. Its Congressional Franchise was renewed for another 25 years on 30 March 1995 to allow the Company to continue operating its television and radio stations.
ABS has an overall rating (average number of people who are watching for every minute the program aired) of 15.9% and audience share (proportion of viewers watching a specific program out of all people watching television during the airing of said program) of 43.3% in Mega Manila in 2003.

PINOY DREAM ACADEMY

DRAMA SA LIKOD NG MGA PANGARAP

PDA SCHOLARS
PDA HOST

A new kind of reality show is going to hit Philippine shores soon with the introduction of Pinoy Dream Academy. From the brains behind the hit Big Brother and Deal or No Deal franchises, Endemol is now giving pop star hopefuls a chance to be a step closer to their dream. Originally known as Star Academy, its emerging popularity caused for various franchises of it to be available in various parts of the world. Africa refers to it as Project Fame while in the US it’s touted as The One: Making a music star. Other countries who caught the Star Academy fever are the UK, Turkey, Spain, Russia, Romania, Portugal, the Netherlands, Middle East, Mexico, Italy, India, Greece, Germany, France, Chile, Canada, Bulgaria, Brazil, Belgium, and Argentina.

In spite of the various names that its been called in each country, the mechanics basically just stay the same wherein the “academy” is being managed by a director and teachers are there to teach the “students” various artistic disciplines. Day and night the contestants will be monitored by hidden cameras and there would be weekly live performances of the students wherein they will showcase the things they have learned and practiced in the past week. This would be the time wherein the show’s judges will rate the students’ performance and the one who will be voted out will be determined from the judges’ scores and the viewers’ votes. The grand prize would be a cool recording contract or something of that sort.

Star Academy is actually the second biggest reality show franchise in the world – the top being Big Brother.

KAPAMILYA DEAL OR NO DEAL

After the success of the Big Brother franchise, ABS-CBN continues its collaboration with Endemol through its recent acquisition of the worldwide game show craze Deal or No Deal which replaced Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition on ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida Block. Queen of Talk Kris Aquino will host Endemol's riveting game show where contestants can win as much as 2 million pesos to as little as 1 peso.

Kapamilya Deal or No Deal is a tension-filled game show where a contestant must choose one briefcase from among 26. Each briefcase contains a particular amount, ranging from 1 peso to two million pesos. It is only when a contestant chooses a briefcase that he/she discovers its value which is flashed on the screen. As the briefcases are opened, the Banker will offer an amount in exchange for the contestant’s briefcase. At this point, the host will ask the contestant, the famous Deal-No Deal question. If the contestant is confident that his/her briefcase has a higher value than the Banker’s offer, he/she can refuse the deal. The host will then continue to open the remaining briefcases until the amount of the contestant’s briefcase is revealed.
Here’s the catch: should the remaining briefcases yield lower values, the contestant has no choice but to accept the Banker’s lower offer. To win, the contestant must choose wisely between a deal or no-deal situation. In a deal situation, the contestant must make sure that his/her briefcase yields a lower amount than what the Banker offered. On other hand, in a no-deal situation, the amount of the contestant’s briefcase must be higher than the Banker’s offer.
You can be a contender on the show by simply texting DEAL and send to 2331 for Globe, Touch Mobile and Sun Cellular subscribers and 231 for Smart, Talk N Text and Addict Mobile subscribers.
